Explanation:

Some early production Optimum downriggers exhibited lens fogging in the field. Examining these found that the right circumstances between production and delivery to the consumer could allow just enough excess moisture into the housing to cause the lens to fog. The addition of a desiccant bag in the motor
housing prevents any potential for fogging.

The motor housing has a vent/patch in the design that should remove any moisture over time, in these select cases the moisture introduced was enough that the vent could not expel the moisture before fogging occurred. Because the vent patch exists and the nature of the desiccant bag chosen this should be a one time install, the bag will not need to be replaced because it is saturated. This should be a one-time installation.

Please install Kit 3778800 in any Optimum with serial number prior to U205CN##### you have in for service for any reason unless it already has the kit installed.

Note: This addition does not address significant amounts of water, only condensation that exhibits as fogging of the screen/lens. If there is evidence of water intrusion such as pooling at the bottom of the motor housing or droplets on various surfaces treat that as a leak, inspect the gaskets and washers, replace the gaskets, motor cover, or downrigger frame as necessary.
